Steel engraving, one of the most exclusive and refined printing processes, was performed by our own engravers at Prantl as early as the mid-19th century. Today, we are proud to be among the few printing houses that still employ this exquisite technique.
Steel Engraving
Steel engraving is a historic printing technique from the 19th century. An image is engraved or etched into a steel plate, which guarantees durability and precise reproduction of the finest details. The plate is inked and transferred onto paper under pressure, creating elegant prints that are ideal for artworks, maps, and illustrations.
Embossing
Embossing creates raised relief patterns on materials without using color. A metal plate with a relief design is pressed onto the material, creating a raised impression. This technique gives printed products a luxurious tactile quality and makes them both visually appealing and tactilely engaging.
Debossing
In contrast to embossing, debossing presses a design into the material surface from the reverse side, creating a recessed effect. This technique gives products such as business cards, letterheads, and invitations an elegant touch and enhances their aesthetic and tactile quality.
Hot Foil Stamping
Hot foil stamping transfers a thin foil onto materials using heat and pressure. A design is engraved onto a stamping die, and the foil—available in colors such as gold, silver, and holographic—creates a glossy, metallic effect. This technique is ideally suited for producing elegant and customized printed products.
Gilded & Colored Edges
Gilded and colored edges refine the edges of paper products such as business cards and wedding stationery with dyes, including metallic or neon tones. This technique enhances visual appeal and gives printed products a distinctive and lasting impact.
Thermography
Thermography refines printed products with a raised relief pattern by applying a special powder after offset printing. This powder fuses with the printing ink when heated, creating a textured surface without requiring special tools. This technique offers a cost-effective alternative to elaborate engraving methods.
